This weekend Nicki Minaj broke the internet with her salacious Paper Magazine spread. On the cover of the publication, multiple incarnations of the “Anaconda” rapper are photoshopped together in a series of sensual poses. Unsurprisingly, the shoot sparked conversations. One person to respond to the cover was fellow rapper turned The Talk host, Eve.
During a segment on The Talk yesterday (November 15), the host spoke critically of the overtly sexual photoshoot. She voiced her respect for Nicki as a lyricist and recognized her right to express herself; however, she was not a fan of the pictures. “But as a woman, from my point of view, personally I would not be able to do that. I think in this climate it’s not good,” she said.
Although Eve has embraced a more sexual image in the past, she said she realized her fame put her in a unique position. “For me personally, as I started coming up in the business I started realizing that young girls were looking up to me. And younger people were looking up to me. And that, not that you want to be a role model, but it is what you are,” Eve explained.
The host predicted that Nicki’s fans would come for her on social media, and, unsurprisingly, she was correct. Her comments sparked a conversation on Twitter as fans came out in support of both women. Check out Eve’s original comments and some Twitter responses below!
Eve is the stereotypical black person that likes to forget where she came from and turn her nose up to anything that doesn't fit her new 'persona' . Nicki Minaj doing the paper magazine shoot is nothing compared to her past. http://pic.twitter.com/z2nwHp2q7M

Ok Eve, Idk if it’s a good look “in this climate” to shame another successful black FEMALE rap artist for embracing her sexuality. Nicki Minaj ate that photo shoot and gave you CONFIDENCE in an era of slut shaming. Y’all trippin’ she a grown ass woman

Eve is full of shit. Instead of shaming Nicki Minaj for owning her sexuality as a GROWN woman she could have used that opportunity to talk more about the success of a fellow Black female rapper. https://t.co/FvVWWug9Rr

I never want nothing to do with a Nicki Minaj fan they are disgusting horrible people eve gave her props she didn't say nothing negative or bad she just gave her perspective from whom she is today

I don’t expect this Eve. Just because Nicki Minaj is owning her sexuality that doesn’t mean she is a bad influence on young women and isn’t telling young women to use their minds. Nicki is a successful Black businesswoman.

Nicki Minaj settled Eve’s line of critique forever ago: http://pic.twitter.com/U8BJdNg082

Nothing wrong with what Eve said about Nicki Minaj and I don't think even Nicki would have taken offense to it. No one has to agree with Eve, and she made that pretty clear.

Eve is a perfect example of why Nicki Minaj don't FUCK WITH other girls like that. They love to act all peaceful and shit in interviews, then wanna bash her outta NO-FUCKING-WHERE!!!!

I agree with Eve, Nicki Minaj should be moving differently now that she’s in her mid thirties. The majority of her fans are pre-teens and teens. Nicki could have such a positive influence on young black women, a real social change. It just seems like she hasn’t grown as a person
