Cher Makes A Glamorous Cameo In The ‘Mamma Mia 2’ Trailer

Cher Drops 'Ooga Boo'
Only Cher could get away with releasing a track called 'Ooga Boo.'

The trailer for Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, the long-overdue sequel to the 2008 hit movie music populated by ABBA songs, arrived today (December 21). It gives an exhaustive recap of the original film as well as updating us on the situation of the pregnant protagonist played by Amanda Seyfried. There are also glimpses of Meryl Streep and Christine Baranski camping it up, but Cher steals the show. She makes a last-minute cameo, stepping from a helicopter in a platinum blond wig no less, as the family’s absurdly-glamorous matriarch.

They will get my money for that scene alone. Apart from saving the Mamma Mia! franchise, Cher has been unusually busy considering that she’s technically off-cycle. Not only is the 71-year-old (how?) keeping fans abreast of the latest political developments via her legendary Twitter, she has also contributed a song called “Prayers For This World” to a documentary called Cries For Syria as well as recording a demented bop called “Ooga Boo” for the Home: Adventures with Tip And Oh soundtrack.

Hopefully the pop icon drops new, non-ABBA music in 2018. Cher is due for a new album. Four years have passed since the arrival of Closer To The Truth and, believe it or not, there are only so many times you can listen to “Woman’s World.” Watch her in the Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again trailer below.

Gwen Stefani Performs Wham!’s “Last Christmas” On ‘The Tonight Show’

Flashback: Gwen Stefani's 'Early Winter'
Of all the gems in Gwen's discography, 'Early Winter' is the most underrated.

Gwen Stefani dropped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to belt out Wham!’s “Last Christmas.” Looking every inch a Christmas angel in a diaphanous pink gown, the No Doubt diva delivered a heartfelt, twangy rendition of the yuletide classic. After a slow start, the 48-year-old’s festive project is really gaining momentum. The album arrived very early (no one is looking for a seasonal bop in October) and debuted outside the top 50 on the Billboard 200. Since then, however, You Make It Feel Like Christmas has come alive.

The album topped iTunes in the wake of Gwen’s top-rated NBC Christmas special, propelling the festive opus to a new peak of number 16. The title track has also proved to be a steady seller and one of the few original Xmas bops to make an impression in recent years. It looks like the “Hollaback Girl” hitmaker’s transition from pop pioneer to holiday stalwart is complete. Watch her do her thing above and below.

Colin Tilley Takes Us Behind The Scenes Of Selena Gomez’s “Wolves” Video

Kygo & Selena Gomez's 'It Ain't Me' Video
Kygo and Selena Gomez's 'It Ain't Me' video is a near-death experience.

Director Colin Tilley (they spelled his name wrong) takes us behind the scenes of Selena Gomez and Marshmello’s “Wolves” video in a new featurette. “The concept of the video is all about Selena sneaking into this indoor pool facility,” he explains. “Security cams are watching her, it’s almost like there’s this very voyeuristic feel to the entire piece where it just feels like she’s being watched… it just feels big and beautiful and just totally matches the feel of the song.”

It’s hard to argue with that assessment. “Wolves” is shaping up to be something of a sleeper hit. It hasn’t stormed to the top of the Billboard Hot 100, but it is steadily building at pop radio and hovering around the top 20 on iTunes. Under normal circumstances, this would be the time to drop a couple of TV performances and send the song towards the top 10. However, the 25-year-old has made it clear that she’s still on semi-hiatus due to health reasons. Watch the BTS feature up top and then the actual video below.

Kesha Is Releasing A New Version Of “This Is Me” From ‘The Greatest Showman’

Kesha & Macklemore's 'Good Old Days' Video
Macklemore and Kesha reflect on their pre-fame lives in their nostalgic new video.

Well, this is a surprise! Kesha is releasing a new single on Friday (December 22). The comeback queen is putting out her own interpretation of “This Is Me,” a power ballad from Hugh Jackman’s upcoming musical The Greatest Showman. It’s easy to see why the original, which was performed by Broadway actress Keala Settle, appealed to the former K$. “When the sharpest words wanna cut me down, I’m gonna send a flood, gonna drown them out,” goes the empowering chorus. “I am brave, I am bruised… I am who I’m meant to be, this is me.”

Expect Kesha’s version to be a little more pop than Keala’s. The two-time Grammy nominee has roped in producer Stuart Crichton (“Let ‘Em Talk” and “Learn To Let Go”) to produce it. I can’t think of a better way for the 30-year-old to close out 2017 than with an inspiring power ballad. After all, that’s how she began it with “Praying.” See her tweet and listen to the original version of “This Is Me” below. Also keep an eye out for the hitmaker at next month’s Grammy tribute to the legendary Elton John.

Retrospective: Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On”

Twenty years ago James Cameron found beauty in tragedy with Titanic. Upon its release, the timeless romance centered around the 1912 crash of the RMS Titanic became one of the best-selling movies of all time. The project set its stars Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio’s careers on steep upward trajectories and lives on as one of the most celebrated releases. It also gave birth to one of the most enduring soundtracks. And the jewel in the center of the collection is Celine Dion’s beloved “My Heart Will Go On.”

Written by James Horner and Will Jennings, the iconic song became the standard for the film’s doomed but star-crossed lovers. The duo composed the song before reaching out to Celine, who allegedly laid down her vocals in one take. After reportedly moving her audience in the studio to tears, Horner said he was able to convince Cameron to take on the track for the closing credits. Coming after a heartrending final scene, the passionate ballad provided a sense of closure for the couple as well as viewers.

Opening with the wistful notes of a penny whistle, “My Heart Will Go On” is an ethereal and hopeful release. “Every night in my dreams I see you, I feel you. That is how I know you go on,” she delicately croons over twinkling keys on the track’s soulful opening lines. The Canadian siren kept her vocals feathery and light at first, only gradually building to a soaring crescendo on the final verse. “You’re here, there’s nothing I fear. And I know that my heart will go. We’ll stay forever this way; you are safe in my heart, and my heart will go on and on,” she assures her lover as the production closes out underneath her devoted declaration of love.

“My Heart Will Go On” became one of Celine’s defining singles. The track made an impressive debut at the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and swept up a slew of awards including the 1997 Academy Award for Best Original Song and the 1999 Grammy for Record of the Year. However, although it was one of the biggest hits of the ’90s, Celine recently revealed she did not even want to record it.

In an interview with Billboard earlier this year, she revisited her experience with the song. She explained that after the massive success of 1996’s “Because You Loved Me” and her experiences with “Beauty and the Beast” in 1991 she was hesitant to take on another large project so soon. Rene Angelil, her husband and manager, promised that she would record a demo for the song, which she reluctantly agreed to.

“I thought, ‘sing the song, then get the heck out of there,'” she said. Little did she know then how large the track would become. “My Heart Will Go On’s” legacy lives on today. As Titanic celebrates its 20th anniversary, the single remains its beating heart and a reminder of all that was lost in the tragic story. This year she performed the enduring ballad at the Billboard Music Awards, and all these years later it still retains the magic from its first recording. Revisit the performance below.

New Peak: Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” Breaks Into The Top 10

Mariah Carey is the reigning queen of the holiday season, and this year she is proving her status by making history on the Billboard Hot 100. Twenty-three years after the release of her iconic anthem “All I Want For Christmas Is You” the single has reached a new peak on the chart. Yesterday (December 18) Billboard announced it had soared into the top 10 and landed at the ninth spot for the first time in its history.

This marks Mimi’s 28th top 10 release; her last came in 2009 with “Obsessed.” It also appears to be the first time a song has taken 23 years to peak in the top 10. Although it was blocked from charting on the Hot 100 upon its initial release, a change in the rules in 2012 has enabled it to soar up the charts every year off impressive streaming numbers. This week alone streaming accounts for 70 percent of its sales.

Last year “All I Want For Christmas Is You” reached its previous peak at number 11. However, this year it has been helped along by the release of an animated movie inspired by the song. The legendary release remains Mimi’s defining holiday anthem and takes the top spot on nearly every Christmas playlist. It is so beloved that this week it tops the Holiday 100 chart for the 29th week. Since it was created in 2011, no other song has topped the chart for more than two weeks. Revisit the enduring single below!

Mandy Moore’s ‘Wild Hope’ LP Is Finally Available On Streaming Services

Mandy Moore To Release New Music In 2018
Mandy Moore doesn't have a label but is hoping to return to music next year.

Depending on your age, you probably know Mandy Moore better for playing Rebecca Pearson on This Is Us or remember her as the Y2K phenom responsible for gems like “Candy” and “I Wanna Be With You” (or my favorite, “Crush”). In between those eras, she went through a singer/songwriter phase and dropped a couple of seriously underrated albums including 2007’s Wild Hope. The opus has just been rereleased and is now available on streaming services like Apple Music and Spotify for the very first time. (Hopefully, the 33-year-old also uploads a HQ version of the quirky “Extraordinary” video to YouTube).

After recording a lovely covers album, Mandy decided to take control of sound and head in an entirely new direction on Wild Hope. Produced by John Alagia, she co-wrote the album with indie/folk heavyweights Rachael Yamagata, Chantal Kreviazuk, Michelle Branch, Lori McKenna and The Weepies. The album produced a pair of memorable singles (the above-mentioned “Extraordinary” and biting “Nothing That You Are”) but it didn’t sell as expected. Excitingly, Mandy is hoping to reignite her music career in 2018. Until then, revisit her lost album below.

K-Pop Star Jonghyun Of Super Group SHINee Dead at 27

K-Pop fans are in shock at news that Kim Jonghyun, the lead singer of wildly-popular boy band SHINee, has died at age 27. According to Korean news agency Yonhap, the superstar was found unconscious at an apartment in Seoul from suspected carbon monoxide poisoning. He was rushed to hospital, but never regained consciousness. The death is being reported as a suicide given a disturbing text message Jonghyun (as he was known to fans around the world) sent his older sister.

“I’ve had a hard time,” he allegedly wrote. “Please let me go and say that I did a good job. This is my last word.” The sad development prompted an outpouring of grief from fans and fellow K-Pop identities. SHINee was formed by SM Entertainment in 2008. They released six albums, five of which reached number one in Korea. They were also extremely popular in Japan, racking up multiple chart-toppers. Their last single, “Tell Me What To Do,” reached number 4 in 2016. Revisit their biggest hit, “Sherlock,” below.
